There are 3 panels to choose from to make up a doll that has a change of clothes very reasonably priced at $11.40 per panel. A quick gift idea.

I have also reduced the price of the remaining flannel to $17.00 per metre( very good quality.)
When Jan Kerton visited the other week to teach, she showed me her new pattern that has been released "Birds on A Wire". Kits are now available at the shop. Blanketing also available.

Jan also left a sample of " Bouncing Bunnies" the difference with this sample is that the Bunnies are on Double Velour instead of the usual Wool Cashmere, it makes it very soft and cuddly.

So yes, l have kits , l have wool /cashmere Blanketing in cream, navy blue, red ,light blue, green etc , l have the velour animal packs to make extra animals, l have some larger pieces of double velour, l have extra threads so l think l pretty well have it all covered, even classes with Jan Kerton.

A rather shy Lyn popped in, ready for her next project and luckily her Saville Row quilt( designed by Judy Newman) made the journey with her. I just thought that it was well worth taking a photo of this great quilt, Lyn also hand quilted using cotton perle thread, a task that was a marathon, with a few soft tissue injuries, but the results are brilliant. All l can say is lucky grandson who will be the recipient of this quilt.
Well l got my Summersville quilt finished (binding that is) and its now hanging in the shop, l still have some fabric available....

The next quilt that came back from Kerrie the quilter was my Salt Air quilt, l had great fun doing this quilt as l used the lovely Meredith's template called Sunburst and hand pieced it which worked really well, and surprisingly it didnt take that long.(l may have been converted) The quilt is super bright and the fabric collection called Salt Air provided me with ample choices of colour as the collection is huge. The strip fabric is from A Day In the Country.

The other quilt that l have finally got into the shop is using Babushka fabric, in soft colours , l just then embroidered little dolls around the fabric panel.

" Is it any wonder" that with the weather the way it was that penguins turned up at the shop, Jan Kerton came too but that was because she had a class full of ladies waiting for her expertise.

"Is it any wonder" that you cannot help buy more fabric when these clean fresh brights from a Day in the Country found there way onto the shelf.

"Is it any wonder " that the weather and a bit of spare time, made sure that the new flannel fabric Pretty Paisley Flan was unpacked. There is a bit more flannel to come out, need a bit more time to do that....how do you get that....??????

"Is it any wonder" with all of the wondering and the new stock aarriving that l had to tidy up which means that there is a good quantity of fabric that has been reduced to $8.00 per metre (minimum 1 metre cut) if you decide you only want lesss than a metre its $15.00 pm.
A good time to pop in and get some backing fabric.......
A good morning apart from a few weirdos and the liberties that they take, but then we have no control over princesses. Ponder that thought for the day............. I wonder if Me and Me Sister Designs had that in mind when they designed there next collection there are some strange bits too it but funnily enough they seem to work lots of brights and black and white. I only managed to get Layer Cakes, Jelly Rolls and Charm Squares and they are now in the shop.
At last the Mettler brand of quilting thread has arrived, a great selection of colours, very popular for hand quilters as it is not waxed so its soft but strong worth a try.....
I have been working on this New Block of the Month for the shop called Sweet Summer, its taking shape quite nicely and should be ready in the next month or so.

So todays weather lends itself to indoor activity as its too darn wet to be outside.......so its quite unfortunate to have to be confined to the sewing room..............
Probably old news for blog readers, but a series of Creative Cards has been released by various designers, the fun thing with these cards is that project is simple, small and achievable,

you can use your scraps
and they make great presents.
They are inexpensive to purchase at $4.50 per card and there are heaps more designs coming in, so l had a chance to have a bit of a play................it was fun.
The wheels are set in motion...its nearly chocolate time and really as if an excuse is needed for the "chocky" fix. Just make sure that you steer away from the favourite quilt and keep it out(the chocolate that is) of the sewing room. Look a bag of lollies is much better for the sewing room, and when you are working on the computer. So l managed to get a few more things finished. The quilt above is just some left over fabric that was kicking around, so l just cut some different size strips and them teamed them with the corresponding size strip in matching colour and divided them with another colour in the same family. Very effective and quick if you need it too be, around about a bag of little lollies worth............

and Domestic Bliss is finished, l used prairie cloth in this quilt a great fabric if you like texture. No kits for this one as l ran out of the fabric.....doh.......
Yep l had a bit of a theme running purely by accident, you know me that bright fabric thing that invades me all the time . The top picture is a cot quilt its sooooooooo easy the pattern from Thimbleblossom . It uses fat quarters and basic piecing with raw edge strips, omg, l also had enough bits and pieces left to use as part of the backing so also quite cost effective.

Now this is the head on a blanket called Bambino, the cutest kid around little Vera, had one and her mum Cara wanted to make another one in case of an emergency, so l got the pattern in for her and then got a bit obsessed with the head on a blanket. Funnily enough l had ( and l stock) soft beautiful velour, so with a bright head and binding its so cute.
A really great present and very achievable for the busy mum to make.

The next pattern and sample is called Mouse in a Matchbox, also a great gift, make or buy a small box (approx 3" x 5") and then the little mouse will fit in, of course after you have made the mouse and the blanket.

Cheers Mary

Now when a public holiday occurs, it is the opportunity to go into my sewing room, in a not so frenetic manner, and have the day to sew, while the cherished Mr Draper, goes about the outside tasks. Well that is the theory.
After a multitude of cuppas, sealing the tiled floor, finishing off the washing/ironing from the previous week, entertaining various kids that popped in, washing the dogs and de-fleeing them and their bedding,(the dogs that is), and attending to the usual issues of food, l managed to only get this done.
A new pattern from Urban Chicks has arrived along with the collection of fabric, so l thought l would whip up the quilt as it has 3 D flowers on it, it is quite time consuming so it didnt fit into the schedule very well but the finished product is looking good, so here is the sample of the one of the blocks.

Its surprising to me that customers still ask for simple patterns and kits for babies, the quilt you need to whip up in a hurry because your daughters girlfriends beauticians aunt has had a baby. Well to help ease this burden, here is the quickest and easiest quilt that l have made, and have kitted up. The good old (new)Bubby Quilt, with no gender specific fabric, precut squares , backing, binding provided. Quilted in Cotton Perle which has given it a soft look and yes l even managed to do that(quilting that is)
Bronwyn Hayes got a bit of a thrashing to, l have had this pattern Sweet Boxes for a little bit, and l needed to have some thing that would resemble Easter, so l made this little sweet box out of some left over fabric, also very easy a covered button finished off the look on the lid and here is my gift that my kids will get for Easter with a chocolate in it. Yes l thought they would have grown out of Easter too, but no they still love chocolate.......
The lovely Irene , will be celebrating a significant birthday soon and she has organised her own birthday quilt and has asked some friends, of which l am in that category(woo hoo) to make a basket square for her, the fabric to represent the person making it and she required it to be hand pieced. So it was a relief when it was only a 6 and half inch square block.

So this is what l did, Irene was a bit wary of me and my bright colour choice she indicated that if it was tooooooooo overboard with lots of orange , it would be relegated to the top left corner or the back. So in an attempt not be be relegated l toned it down.
Is'nt the idea of a birthday quilt great and also if you organise it, you can define what you want but let the girls you have asked add there own individuality.
I will keep you posted as to where my blocks go.
I am over saying time flies, omg its nearly March, what has happened to February. Being busy is a good thing, the disadvantage is that as the time flies we get just that little bit older blah and more blah. Do you ever feel like you are in a" deja vu" situation each time l open a delivery l think like this . But then look at what arrives gee this is bliss..............
The picture above shows off plain jelly rolls, an interesting marketing devise by Moda, well just think about it we do tend to end up cutting up a plain homespun into a quilt,so why not have it cut for you. At the moment only 3 colours have arrived but more are expected.
Next, this fabulous reproduction collection 1862 Battle Hymn, just a couple of of bolts shown to entice the next project.
Now over the years l have generally steered away from hand piecing a quilt for a couple of reasons, the time frame it takes, l would'nt have any quilts in the shop if this is all l did, also if l sit to sew, its usually to do embroidery. So when Judy Newman came in 2010 for her class on Gelati, l was inspired by the ease of hand piecing this quilt, the quilt class also coincided with a great collection of black fabric arriving, so l put two and two together and the above picture is the result , l am delighted with the fact that number one l finished it, but also l completed it within a five year time frame.
So Janice this picture is for you as you were the one that kept me going on this project.
Kerrie from Black Forest Quilting will be quilting it shortly so it will be in the shop when its done.
And the Magic Garden also arrived, a super bright panel with some lovely blends, another quick quilt to make up.
I have also realised that due to the length of this blog l need to write a bit more regularly, then l wont need to to be writing essay length blogs.
